Models Prefer Sweet Kisses swatches + first impressions

On Thursday I picked up the Models Prefer Sweet Kisses ‘cosmetic tin’ from my local Priceline store. I had looked for it as soon as I saw it online, but none of the SAs even knew what I was talking about. (Asking me where I had seen it).

As it is still not available at a lot of Priceline stores, I thought I would post some swatches and my first impressions for anyone who is interested in purchasing one.

Included in the tin are 16 eye shadows, bronzer, illuminator, 2 blushes, eye primer, double ended Mascara/Brow Gel and duo eye brush. The tin itself is embossed and appears to resemble a chocolate box (especially after seeing the eye shadow shade names!)

Models Prefer Sweet Kisses Eye shadows

models prefer sweet kissesThe lighter shades were less pigmented (which I guess is to be expected) and some where a little on the powdery side unfortunately. However, the darker shades…they swatched amazingly! Especially the really shimmery shades like ‘Honey Crunch’ and ‘Toffee’.

The swatches below are of the two top rows

models prefer sweet kissesLeft to right: Butter Cream, Almond Nougat, Cherry Ripe, Honey Crunch, Toffee, Cocoa, Strawberry Cream and Caramel.

My favourite shades from these two rows (just from swatching) are Honey Crunch and Strawberry Cream. Strawberry Cream is actually more pigmented than it looks in the above photo.

Below are the swatches from the bottom two rows

models prefer sweet kissesLeft to right: Chocolate Whip, Pistachio, Black Forest, Praline, Truffle, Mint Slice, Maple Fudge and Dark Cluster.

My two favourites from the these two rows are Truffle and Mint Slice. Again, Mint slice is more pigmented than it appears in this photo.

Models Prefer Sweet kisses Bronzer, Illuminator & Blushes

models prefer sweet kissesUnfortunately the blushes were very disappointing on swatching them. I had to use a brush, rather than my finger to be able to swatch them! Hopefully it will be a different story when I use them on my face.

The bronzer and illuminator were also powdery, but again they may perform differently when applied.

I really like the texture of the eye primer, very smooth and it appears to have a slight sheen to it.

Swatches…
models prefer sweet kissesLeft to right: Cinnamon Spice (Bronzer), Macaron (illuminator), Marshmallow (blush), Peach Parfait (blush) and eye primer.

I haven’t used a bronzer a lot, but I really like the look of this one and I can’t wait to try the illuminator!

Overall, I’m pretty happy with the quality of this set…I can’t write off the lighter shades just yet until I actually try them on my eyes.

If you are interested in picking up this set (and it’s not at your local Priceline store yet), it may take another week or so as it appears to be a ‘Christmas’ release. You can also purchase it from the Priceline site (no longer available online). The Models Prefer sweet kisses tin retails for $25. There is also one called Sweet Shadows for $15, it contains 12 eye shadows, eye shadow primer and double ended mascara/brow gel

Edit: Emma from Emma Bovary Beauty has posted a review of the Sweet Shadows tin, you can check it out here.

FOTD Friday: Purple cat eye look- includes product reviews

A few weeks ago I was offered the opportunity to try (and review) some products from fashionaddict.com.au. I decided that I would create a purple cat eye look, rather than just reviewing the products.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I didn’t end up doing a FOTD Friday post last week, but I will definitely be doing one each Friday for the remaining weeks of my spending ban!

The products that I chose to review were the BYS Trio Eyeshadow in ‘Purples’, BYS Gel eyeliner in ‘Magic black’ and BYS Matte top coat. Obviously, I have used other products for the look, but I will only be reviewing the products from fashionaddict.com.au.

purple cat eye lookFashionaddict.com.au don’t only sell makeup, they also sell a great range of fashion accessories, hair accessories, jewellery and even Facinators. (perfect for spring racing!)

BYS Trio Eye shadows in ‘Purples’- I was playing around with this trio last week and I thought that the shadows were too powdery, but today I realise that it was more about the brush I was using. They are still powdery, but workable. Unfortunately these shadows are not very pigmented, so the colour pay off isn’t the best. I used the Mary Kay shadow to help with this. Overall, it’s an okay trio but nothing to rave about.

BYS Gel Eyeliner in ’01 Magic Black’-
I have only tried a few gel eyeliners, so I don’t have a lot to compare it to, but I like it! The formula is creamy without being greasy. It applies well and blends fairly easy. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the brush that was included with it, I ended up just using one of my own.

Purple cat eye lookBYS Matte Top coat- I had been searching for this for ages, but never come across it. I was a little disappointed though. I tried it over a shiny (but not shimmery) nail polish and I expected it to turn the colour completely matte, but it just dulled the shine of the polish. You can definitely tell the difference between the color with and without the matte top coat, it just wasn’t what I expected. I haven’t added a photo of it on my nails because the effect didn’t photograph well.

Spending ban update
I have only broken my spending ban for two makeup items since I started the ban (on September 17), I think that is pretty good! Of course, it made it a little easier that I could buy makeup for the upcoming Halloween swap! (even if the items weren’t for me haha)

What I got…
This Revlon set had a clearance sticker of $5 on it, but when I scanned it, it said $3! I always scan things at target, even when the price is on it because many times they end up scanning cheaper than the marked price (I take after my mum, with doing that!)

The Models prefer sweet kisses tin! I’ve been waiting for this to show up at Priceline since I first saw it online! I have swatched it and plan to post the swatches up over the weekend…stay tuned!

Achievement of the week- Walking away after seeing the Chi Chi mirror polishes at Myer AND with 25% off Chi Chi too! Also, not buying any of the new SugarBaby Cotton Candy scented items…the packaging is super cute, I’m obsessed with everything Cotton Candy (obviously) and I may have stood there for quite a while contemplating buying ‘just’ the lip balm haha

I am not sure what next week’s FOTD friday post is going to be yet…suggestions welcome!
