I did intend on having this This Ulta3 Lip Paint review written, photographed for and published about a week or so ago, but unfortunately I came down with a terrible cold, so didn’t feel up to swatching the colours on my lips, photographing the swatches etc.
Ulta3 kindly sent me two of the lip paint shades to review and I picked up another two shades from one of my local pharmacies.
Lip Swatches
Top Left: Radical Red*, Top Right: Loud Purple*, Bottom Left: Expressive Fuchsia, Bottom Right: Extreme Pink
Please excuse the red blotchy patches around my lips, I was still unwell and I broke out around my lips more than usual! I totally forgot to swatch them on my hand, but I think lip swatches shows the colours better.
Ulta3 Lip Paint Review
All of the lip paints appear to be quite pigmented, but not all of them are totally opaque on the lips. The darker shades (Fuchsia and Red) are opaque, while the lighter shades (Pink and Purple) are a little more sheer. Of course this could be improved with the use of a lipstick or lip pencil in a similar shade under them.
The texture, I would describe as more of a thicker lip gloss. My favourite shade of the four I tried (there are a total of 6 shades) is Expressive Fuchsia.
The scent smells strongly of peppermint oil, which not everyone will be a fan of, but I don’t mind it too much. I just think I might not be able to wear them all the time.
The Lip Paints are available at selected pharmacies, It’s just a matter of coming across one that stocks the brand. I picked up the additional two shades from Community Care Chemist in Belmont (Geelong), purely by chance. (didn’t know they stocked Ulta3)
Each lip paint retails for $5.95
Breakdown
Pros: Pigmented, Dark shades are opaque, affordable, not too sticky, easy to apply (doe-foot applicator), 6 shades to choose from
Cons: Light shades a little sheer/streaky, have to reapply after a while, strong peppermint oil scent, no real neutral shade.
Overall I was quite pleased with these lip paints. The only one I was really disappointed with, was Extreme Pink. I bought it because I loved the look of the shade in the tube, but unfortunately it was the most sheer of the four above shades. I also wish there had been a nude shade.
