Face of the day Friday: Frosty rose makeup look

I am way behind on my 29 posts in 29 days (3 to be exact), but I shall be catching up over the weekend….but first my FOTDF is a frosty rose makeup look

Frosty rose makeupWhat I used for my Frosty rose makeup look

frosty rose makeup– NYX Wonder Pencil in ‘light’
-Modelsprefer Argan infusion natural foundation in ‘Shell’
-*MUD pressed powder in ‘001 Ivory’
-*MUD Concealer in ‘001 Ivory’
– Rimmel wonder’full mascara with argan oil
– L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Kajal Eye Pencil in ‘501 Oriental Black’
– * Ulta3 cream blush stick in ‘pretty pink’
-* Ulta3 Lipstick in ‘004 Freesia’
-The Balm nude’tude palette (not pictured)

I used the Modelsprefer Argan infusion natural foundation as my base, added the *ulta3 blush stick to the apples of my cheeks and blended it out. I like how the blush gave my cheeks a natural, but subtle ‘flushed’ look. You could skip using pressed powder or not blend it out as much if you want the blush to show more.

IMG_0023Before I applied my eye makeup, I used the *MUD pressed powder all over my face to ‘set’ my foundation, as you would with a translucent powder. I wasn’t sure how this product would go because most ‘ivory’ foundations/powders are either (still) too dark for my skin-tone or have a yellow undertone, so they make me look like an Oompa Loompa! I think it’s great for a supermarket brand. It goes on evenly and the shade was perfect for me. (MUD products are available from Woolworths supermarkets).

IMG_0031For my eyes: I started with the Kejal eye pencil along my upper lash line, I then covered my lids in ‘Stand-offish’ from the Balm Nude’tude palette and ‘Stubborn’ in the outer crease (also from the Nude’tude palette). I finished it off with a coat of Rimmel’s Wonder’ful mascara with argan oil on my lashes.

For the lips: I outlined and ‘coloured’ in my lips with the NYX wonder pencil. I love my NYX wonder pencil, it really is a multi-purpose product. You can use it as a concealer, lip liner and on your waterline . I recommend sharpening it before you use it near your eyes after you have used it on your lips, so there is no cross contamination…you don’t want to end up with an eye infection!

frosty rose makeupThen I applied *Ulta3 lipstick in Freesia over the top. I was a little worried with this lip colour because it looks very pale/frosty in the tube (it looks darker in the photo above), but I was surprised that it wasn’t as pale as I first thought. I would describe it as frosty rose (hence the title of this post), even though it’s called ‘freesia’.

I was intending on posting 1 post per day for my 29 posts in 29 days, but seeing as I have fallen behind…I will just try my best to complete all 29 posts by my birthday on the 29th of July 😉

Lipstick battle: Ulta3 vs Boe Professional

top: Boe Professional perfect pout lip cream in ‘Sunset’ bottom: Ulta3 lip paint in ‘Radical red*

I was thinking of doing comparison posts of products a while ago, but I wasn’t sure what to call it…that was until Monday night, after I watched Lip Sync Battle. Hence the name ‘Lipstick Battle’.

Lipstick battle: Ulta3 Lip Paint in ‘Radical Red’ vs. Boe Professional Perfect Pout Lip Cream in ‘Sunset’

 Lipstick battle

Boe Professional perfect pout lip creams are $6.95 exclusive to Big W

Boe Professional perfect pout lip cream in ‘Sunset’

Swatch: The Boe professional perfect pout lip cream in ‘Sunset’ goes on the lips a little sheer (top pic), so I decided to try it over a lip pencil (bottom pic) and it seemed to make it a lot more opaque. I used the Essence lip liner in ’07 Cute Pink’ $2 from Priceline

Packaging: A tube with a convenient doe-foot applicator. I find you need to shake/squeeze the tube to move the product around a bit before use.

Scent: There isn’t really a detectable scent

Texture: The texture is quite creamy and non drying. It is however sheer, but that could be because of the lighter shade and it can easily be fixed with colouring in your lips with a lip liner in a similar shade.

Ulta3 Lip paints are $5.95 from selected pharmacies

Ulta3 Lip paint in ‘Radical red’

Swatch: The Ulta3 lip paint in ‘radical red’ goes on opaque and evenly.

Packaging: A tube with a convenient doe-foot applicator. No need to squeeze the tube, as the product stays in place in the tube.

Scent: There is a very noticeably minty scent, it may be a put off for someone who is not a fan of mint or strong scents.

Texture:  A slightly stickier texture than the lip cream, but it still applies quite smoothly.  The inclusion of peppermint oil makes lips tingly when applied, but it goes away after a few minutes.

The result: Swatch: Ulta3, Packaging is a tie, Scent: Boe professional because it seems to be scent free, Texture: Ulta3 because of the opacity.

So while both products wear fairly well, this Lipstick battle goes to…Ulta3 Lip Paint in ‘Radical Red’

Have you tried either of these? what did you think?
