Ombré nails was just one of the hot trends featured on the catwalks for Spring/Summer 2012 during New York Fashion week.
Wanda Ruiz for CND (Creative Nail Design), created this look for Jen Kao’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. She used an airbrush to get the colours to blend into each other, with shades such as ‘Midnight Sapphire’, ‘Anchor Blue’, ‘Rouge Red’, ‘Green Scene’ and ‘Inkwell’.
I don’t own an airbrush, so I decided to recreate the look my own way.
First I painted my nails with a base coat, I chose Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear nail colour in ‘Emerald city’.
then I painted the bottom half of my nails with Rimmel London’s 60 Second nail polish in ‘Black Out’, one nail at a time. While the black polish was still wet (not tacky or it won’t work) I took some clear polish and slowly blended the black up to the middle of my nail, to create that ‘Ombre’ look.
Jewel hues were popular on the runways, but you could experiment with any colour you want. Perhaps a three toned effect to resemble a sunset, with red, orange and yellow?
